As Christians, usually, when someone invites or invokes us to share our testimony, we get a huge lump in our throats. We experience stage fright and fear. We don’t want to face the possible repercussions – the what if’s. What if they don’t understand? What if it is not powerful enough? What if they take it the wrong way? What if they judge me?
Sharing your testimony in the church in front of a large or small group is fine, there is nothing wrong with it. It is a time that we use to build each other’s faith and encourage your brothers and sisters in the Lord who may be going through similar situations. But, that is not the only method of sharing what the Lord has done (and continues to do) in your life. Can I Get a Witness?
Don’t ever feel that what you have to share is irrelevant. According to the dictionary, the word testimony simply means a). “affirmation that something exists or is true,” and b). “a formal written or spoken statement.” We all have something we can share that will inspire and encourage others – it does not have to be earth shattering or a theme borrowed from a tear-jerking television drama. Pure and simply, share that which you know to be true about the God that you serve. And, by all means, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason for the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
- CAN I GET A WITNESS
You may not be able to quote the Scriptures like others, or you may not be as articulate as others – just be yourself. Stop trying to measure up to someone else’s standard of who you should be. You are who God created you to be, don’t live in someone else’s shadow. The spotlight might not be shining on you, but heaven’s LIGHT OF GLORY is shining on you, and through you, every day! Remember that, and more so, it is not us, but it is the Holy Spirit living on the inside of us that makes a difference. “But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost comes upon you: and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
So what is a witness? A witness is an individual who has personal knowledge of something! Bears witness to their convictions! The person who gives a statement as to the truthfulness of a matter from their first-hand experiences. This is not second-hand information, passed down information, I heard it through the grapevine information – this is who I know God to be from my own personal experiences.
We don’t testify to impress, we testimony to prove to unbelievers that God does exist, and to show forth the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! You are God’s free servant! Your goal should be to obey and please the Lord, not man. And, don’t get caught up in the numbers – God has someone for you to reach, someone for you to minister to, someone for you to save. How many people are suffering because of your disobedience?
So many eyewitnesses, but no one wants to testify! Does not that aggravate you? When the law enforcement officer is investigating a crime, and a crowd of people is standing around, everyone is a witness – but no one wants to testify. No one wants to get involved. No one wants to help clean up the neighborhood, no not a one! It is the same in the Body of Christ – everyone is a witness! AND, I MEAN EVERYONE! But we are all waiting for the church leaders, “It is their responsibility we say.”
“For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He shall come in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.”
Well, you are wrong. Pray that God gives you holy boldness to be a witness of God’s wonderful works, and that your life be a testament to His saving grace. Someone needs to hear from you. Someone needs to hear how God delivered you, healed your body, saved your soul, changed your mind, gave you a new heart – someone needs to hear it from you! They may not believe me when I tell them, they may not believe their parents, the pastor – they are your assignment.
We are one body and every member of the body is important, every ministry is important, every gift is important. Don’t hide your light under a tree! And, don’t let anyone make you feel that what you have to offer has no value! It does! You can win and influence a thousand souls for the Kingdom of God – one soul at a time! In the grocery store, at the coffee shop, on your job, in your community – “don’t be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes.”
WE ARE NOT CALLED TO BE JUDGES, FOR THERE IS ONLY ONE JUDGE, BUT WE ARE CALLED TO BE WITNESSES! BE BOLD FOR JESUS, HE DIED A SHAMEFUL DEATH FOR YOU!
You may meet a stranger one day, or run into a long lost friend one day, and they will say, “Because of you, I gave my life to the Lord!” “Because of you, I did not give up!” “Because of you, I turned my life around!” “Because of you …”
